50 Cent returns, crew in tow, to dish out more of the same
gangsta shit that brought him huge success in 2003. It's easy
to see why 50 was the one chosen to have the solo career from
G-Unit. While as a group they still maintain some of that "the
thug everybody hates to love", most of it is lost somewhere
between the poor flows and overabundance of digitized gunfire
and Glock cocks.
I managed to find humor in "My Buddy," an urban version
of the late 80's commercial theme for a doll, updated to be about
their weapons. "Wanna Get to Know You" smoothes things
out a bit and shows G-Unit's sensitive side, which apparently
is "to make her feel special I let her call me by goverment
name." How nice of him.
Okay...I have to admit "Betta Ask Somebody" is a cool
cut. Each member put thought into their lyrics and how they will
pair up with the fat and funky bassline. "Smile" carries
some of that playa feel from 50's album
Get
Rich Or Die Tryin
, and is the last track
really worth mentioning.
Most of the time I find myself ignoring most of the verses and
singing along with the choruses. And thus my conflict of interests
is exposed on an album like this. It's not very good, but for
some reason I tolerate it and at times enjoy it.
